Albert Camus üzerinden iletişimde absürdizm
Albert Camus, one of the pioneers of existentialism and absurdism, identified the search for meaning in a meaningless universe as "absurd" by defining the limits of absurdism in his work The Myth of Sisyphus. According to him, a person knows that he will die while trying to add value to his life. This contradiction brings out the "absurd". Because death is a tragic end for Man. Another absurd work of Albert Camus, The Stranger is dominated by an incongruous sensibility. This novel of Camus, who argues that the world is absurd and meaningless, is considered one of the most important works of philosophy of the 20th century. The meaninglessness of life, alienation from the environment and oneself, and indifference are at the forefront in the novel. Albert Camus, who has very influential works all over the world, knew today's people very well and expressed the problems of alienation and lack of communication in societies in a foresight way in 1942. In The Stranger, studies on absurd philosophy were carried out at the level of master's degree and doctorate, by considering other works of Camus. Some of these studies have dealt with Camus' philosophy of "absurd" by comparing existentialism, while others have touched on the concept of absurd in the context of the works. In my thesis titled "Absurdism in Communication Based on Albert Camus", I focused on the alienation caused by absurdism by taking Albert Camus's novel The Stranger, which tells the story of absurdism, and examined the absurd communication and alienation of today's people by using In-depth Interview method, based on reasons such as socioeconomic, cultural and digitalization.
Kentsel mekanın yeniden üretiminde haber medyasının rolü: Galataport İstanbul projesi haberlerinin Hürriyet ve Sabah Gazetelerindeki ideolojik sunumu
Media is shaping the consciousness, ideas, emotions and even daily lives of individuals by presenting a certain framework of meaning to the society. The individuals evaluate the social events and facts within the framework of meaning that is provided by the media. This study is defending the opinion that the content and discourse that is produced in the urban transformation news reports by the journalist, as the organic intellectual, is legitimizing the capital-oriented transformation of the city and the relations of production are reproduced. Starting from the presupposition that reality that is constructed in news which is produced along with certain hegemonic discourse has influences on the consciousness of the individuals, the study argues the news discourse is influential over the individuals in leading them to illusions by neglecting the social inequalities and contradictions, and by virtue of this, neoliberal hegemony can be reproduced. Accordingly, in the study, the role of the hegemonic discourses produced in the news in mainstream newspapers about the Galataport Istanbul Project, which is considered as the spatial reflection of neoliberal hegemony, in legitimizing the capital-oriented transformation of the city and in the production of social consent, is researched with a critical approach and Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method. As a result of the study, to be legitimized the space reproduced as a commodity, it has been observed the project is identified with a strong economy, development, well-being and welfare of the society in the news discourses. By developing a content and discourse that affirms such projects for a strong and developed, society has been encouraged to support neoliberal urban hegemony.
Dijital ve sosyal medya pazarlamasının tüketici satın alma davranışlarındaki rolü: Tüketicilerin çevrim içi giyim alışverişi alışkanlıkları üzerine bir araştırma
With the development of technology, it has become easier for people to access devices such as smart phones and smart tablets. In this way, digital platforms, and in particular social media, have been commonly adopted by individuals. Their increased use has led to the use of these channels as marketing tools as well. The capacity of social media to reach a large number of people all over the world and its interactive communication style make it a popular medium preferred by brands for their marketing efforts. Social media is open to the access and use of all individuals who request it. Users who sign up to the various social media channels often become the target of digital content advertisements of brands, and therefore, should have sufficient knowledge to choose between products. Easy access of consumers to information, their option to choose between products, and their freedom to express their experiences have led brands to adopt consumer-oriented marketing strategies. Brands today not only produce quality products and services for their customers, but also try to reflect the lifestyle of their target audience. Before buying products or services, consumers examine certain criteria for brands such as ideology, social media content sharing, mobile marketing, e-mail marketing, and then make their purchases accordingly. The easiest ways to reach such information are through internet queries and social media research. In terms of buying preferences, it is important for brands to meticulously manage their use of internet and social media for their digital marketing activities, and to send consistent and integrated messages representing the brand image. This study examines the effect of social media digital marketing activities of clothing brands on consumer buying behavior. Consumers residing in İstanbul participated in the study and the data obtained were analyzed statistically.
Siyasal aktörlerin sosyal medya paylaşımlarının analizi
Political communication campaigns have always been very important for political actors for reaching the public. With the development of technology, the internet and social media channels, which were added to the mass media such as radio, newspapers, and television, have become new communication tools for political actors. Ekrem İmamoğlu, who won the elections on March 31, 2019, won them again by increasing the vote difference witn his opponent, Binali Yıldırım, on June 23, 2019, in the re-elections, when his mandate was canceled due to the supposed irregularities in the previous run. In this thesis, the five most liked posts on Ekrem İmamoğlu's Instagram profile between May 6, 2019, the date of the cancellation of the mandate, and June 23, 2019, when the second elections were held, were analyzed using semiotic analysis and in-depth interview methods. Since Ekrem İmamoğlu is the CHP's candidate and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality elections have an important place in Turkish politics, the political history of Turkey from 1923 to the present is outlined in the thesis, and main policies and the historical development of CHP are discussed. Main political ideologies are explained, and the use of media, particularly social media and Instagram, by political actors is discussed with examples from Turkey and abroad. As a result of the analysis made in this research, it was seen that Ekrem İmamoğlu used an integrative, loving, and hopeful language in his Instagram posts. In addition, it is seen that they involve contradictions as they transmit progressive meanings while also reproducing certain conventional social norms.
Mobil oyun sektörünün yeniden üretimi: Hiper gündelik oyunlar
This study offers the definition, building blocks, producers, marketing strategies and practices concerning a significant type of mobile gaming industry, hyper-casual games. Due to my profession, I actively participate in the production process of hyper-casual games as a producer and consumer. In addition to explaining the production process from such a point of view, the study uses self-reflexivity method to cover the narratives of this type's producers. Notions and phenomena that emerge during the production of such games are explicated in relation with the ideas of various thinkers and theoreticians. The concept of game is explained in the study over hyper-casual games, which represents an important area, where production modes in our modern capitalist system change and transform. A literature review was conducted to observe the existing studies in the field. Especially the speed factor, which is one of the most visible characteristics of our time as we experience it, continues to change spaces substantially, allowing its users to produce, much like the gaming industry. Such transformation brings along a new and up to date perspective to the concept of game. The persisting existence of active producers and consumers of hyper-casual games can be viewed as a powerful reproduction of games. Keywords: Game, Mobile Game, Hyper-Casual Game, Speed
Netflix aracılığıyla kendi kendini gerçekleştiren insan mitinin yeniden üretimi: Netflix orijinal yapımları üzerinden bir karşılaştırmalı analiz
Netflix is currently the subject of various academic discussions in addition to its widespread commercial success over the last two decades. This study seeks to make a contribution to the academic literature by examining whether Netflix, an American media and entertainment company, truly "thinks local and acts global" in accordance with its motto or instead promotes the myth of the self-made man, one of America's founding myths, and, thus, reproduces capitalist hegemony. By examining Netflix's three original teen series created in three distinct nations, Sex Education, Elite, and Aşk 101, this study seeks to answer the following questions: (i) How do Netflix's original teen series produced in different localities incorporate the notion of the self-made man? (ii) How does the myth of the self-made man reproduced through these shows relate to capitalist hegemony? The stories of the protagonists of these three teen series are meticulously analyzed under the framework of Joseph Campbell's notion of the "hero's journey" to see whether their journeys reflect that of the self-made man as the myth and, accordingly, carry the core values of this myth or not. The results of this analysis provide fascinating insights into the perpetuation and representation of the "self-made man" myth in digital television. The self-made man myth is reproduced, albeit with some differences, in each of the three teen series examined, which makes us believe that Netflix, as an important actor in the global media industry, plays a role in spreading the dominant myths of capitalist hegemony around the world.

Medya okuryazarlığının değerlendirilmesi: Üniversite öğrencilerinin analizi
Media literacy refers to the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create messages in a wide variety of media modes and formats. It encompasses recognizing the role and influence of media in society. Even though the media is so globalized and easily accessible, it is necessary to correctly perceive and read the messages presented, make sense of them, analyze, evaluate, criticize, etc. On the other hand, it is possible to have sufficient equipment to distinguish positive and negative characteristics with the notion of media literacy. Before accessing media literacy equipment, the individual is only in a passive position in front of the messages presented by the media. However, the individual with access to the media literacy equipment comes out of passivity in the face of the messages presented and takes an active position that evaluates questions, analyzes the media messages, and keeps a distinction in the context of the criteria it sets. Since media literacy is a lifelong process begining from a young age, this study has been planned considering that it is important to examine it at all levels, especially for university students who have a significant role in shaping the future. The study aims to determine university students' media literacy levels, to compare the media literacy levels of university students who took and did not take a media literacy course and determine what socio-demographic factors affect media literacy. In this study, the "Media Literacy Level Determination Scale" developed by Karataş to measure the media literacy of university students was used with his permission. The universe of the research consists of university students studying at Yeditepe University. The sample consists of 801 students studying at Yeditepe University. As a result of the research, the fact that taking a media literacy course increases the level of media literacy shows that there is a statistically significant difference between students who take this course and those who do not. Another result is that when the scores in the distribution of the students according to the classes are examined, it is concluded that the media literacy levels of the senior students are higher than the other classes. When socio-demographic characteristics are taken into account, no significant difference was found in media literacy in terms of gender, family structure and place of residence.

Kadın cinayetleri bağlamında kollektif hafıza ve gazetecilik
This study examines the news production processes about femicide, a universal problem, in the Turkish press within the context of collective memory. The relationship between memory and the news media is explained by associating it with Alison Landsberg's (2004) concept of prosthetic memory. In addition, to better analyze how collective memory is (re)produced through news about femicide, which is the main subject of the study, feminist movements and women's ideas and activities about the issue from the past to the present in the world and Turkey are discussed. The in-depth interview method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, has been used in the study. Female journalists working in different news media outlets were included as participants in the research and were asked questions about the relationship between news production processes, femicide, and collective memory. Keywords: Collective Memory, Femicide, Journalism, News Production
Sosyal medya içinde ve dışında kentsel kolektif hafıza: İzmit tarihi tekel binası örneği
This research examines the relationship between the demolition of the Izmit Historical Tekel Building Wall, located in the center of Izmit and demolished on April 3, 2021, and its relationship with collective memory. The aim of the research is to understand how the Izmit Historical Tekel Building Wall has a place in online and offline collective memory, how the recent demolition of the wall is perceived by the residents of that neighborhood, and how it makes them feel. Within the scope of this purpose, the research will analyze how this demolition is received in the reader's comments on the news in the online local media and in the posts on social media and will make sense of how the collective memory of this historical building is reconstructed in these online channels. Two research methods, in-depth interviews and critical discourse analysis, will be used to conduct these investigations. Erkeklik mitinin sosyal medyada yeniden üretilmesi
Today, we see a diversity of the effects of the innovations we experience in many areas as technology develops day by day. For example, having entered our lives thanks to the development of communication technologies, social media platforms, where we carry our daily life practices and digitalize them, have changed and improved our socialization, communication, and news consumption habits with the convenience they provide. In this context, interest and curiosity in social media have increased, and social media channels that many people prefer to use have emerged. In social media, especially on popular platforms such as Instagram, an accessible and transformative environment has emerged where the user is in control and interacts with others. People can share content in these channels, establish bonds with others, and represent themselves by building an identity here and presenting it to others. From this point of view, it is thought that the social media platforms that men prefer to use intensely will take an essential place in studies on masculinity. Accordingly, this thesis focuses on Instagram, a popular social media platform. Men's construction and representation of their identities are shaped by the roles imposed on them by society and a strong emphasis on masculinity. Parallel to this, masculinity features (looks, behavior patterns, habits, lifestyles, etc.) are idealized and mythified through various messages. The impact of social media is enormous in this regard. In this thesis, the reproduction of the myth of masculinity in social media is explored by analyzing the representation of manhood and the male body on Instagram and the messages to be given through these with the semiotic method.
Siyasi diyalogun değersizleştirilmesinde medyanın rolü: Suriye Savaşı örnek olayı
Wars, the threat to social security, the destruction of infrastructure, and the displacement of human groups are still among the tools used mainly and increasingly in international conflict today. Although the literature of contemporary capitalism theoretically abounds with calls for maintaining international peace and stability, in practice, its political representatives place wars among the many tools available for use to divide areas of political and economic influence simply because this tool, the war, is one for measuring the weights of the conflicting forces when the various political tools fail. On this basis, many media outlets practice advanced techniques for justifying wars. This study aims to show the means used in the media to justify wars and armed conflicts by claiming that it is impossible to provide corresponding or alternative means, such as dialogue, for example, or the general social desire to maintain stability through political solutions. In this context, the Syrian case represents a typical case of the abovementioned circumstances. It is known that the Syrian crisis, which exploded for reasons mostly internal and local, coincided with an international situation witnessing a critical global balance between East and West, which led to the continuation of the war on Syrian territory with the political, logistical, and military sponsorship of dozens of countries in the world. These circumstances prompted the media, owned by local and international parties involved in the conflict, to justify the war as an inevitable evil. Therefore, it underestimated all calls and attempts to hold a political dialogue between the conflicting parties by presenting the dialogue as a form of military surrender, or as a solution that contradicts the possibility of retribution for the perpetrators of crimes, or by questioning the eligibility of the counterparty and its ability to hold its promises, or by cynical examining the possibility of success of this path as a result. Our research selects four samples of television programs purposefully, within the framework of the qualitative method, to analyze their critical discourse and to test the hypotheses and questions on which the research is based. Keywords: War, crisis, dialogue, undervaluing, political solution, Syrian war, progovernment media, opposition media.
Instagram'ın yemek bozukluklarının gelişme riskleri üzerindeki etkisi: Genç kadın adultlar ve görünüm odaklı hesaplar
The prevalence and extensive usage of Instagram as a social media platform have drawn my attention to the issue of appearance-oriented accounts on Instagram that endorse unrealistic standards of beauty. These accounts may contribute to the development of eating disorders, especially among young adult women. Various studies consistently indicate a connection between exposure to idealized depictions of female beauty in the media and negative effects on mood, self-esteem, body dissatisfaction, and a desire to be thin. Recent research has specifically focused on appearance-oriented accounts on Instagram, which prominently display manipulated images of beauty showcasing unattainable body ideals and flawless appearances. Given that a significant portion of Instagram users are young adult women, who are particularly vulnerable to societal pressures, it is crucial to understand the association between appearance-oriented Instagram accounts and the risk of eating disorders. Eating disorders have severe psychological and physical consequences and disproportionately affect young adult women. The research establishes a theoretical foundation by comprehensively reviewing literature on gender and power dynamics, female body image, ideals of female beauty, the connection between media and eating disorders in women, social media, and Instagram, with a specific focus on feminist perspectives and the impact of media on women's perceptions of their bodies. The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between appearance-oriented Instagram accounts and the risk of eating disorders among young adult women. The experiment study examines the influence on body image, body satisfaction, self-esteem, mood, and drive for thinness and explores the relationship between appearance-oriented Instagram accounts and eating disorders. The main hypotheses of this study propose that extensive exposure to appearance-oriented accounts on Instagram has a negative impact on mood, self-esteem, body image, and increases the likelihood of developing eating disorders. Keywords: Appearance-focused accounts, Body dissatisfaction, Body image, Eating disorders, Instagram, Young female adults
