Abstract (EN)
SummaryThe aim of this study is to investigate the possible physiological and genotoxic effects of 1,4 Dioxane which is in the structure of many products used in daily life, and the protective role of green tea extract to this effect. Albino mice divided into one control group and five practice groups randomly. During the 10-week practice period, the mice from group I to VI are treated with tap water, 50 mg/kg c.a green tea, 100 mg/kg c.a green tea, 720 mg/kg c.a 1,4 Dioxane, 720 mg/kg c.a 1,4 Dioxane and 50 mg/kg c.a green tea, 720 mg/kg c.a 1,4 Dioxane and 100 mg/kg c.a green tea, respectively. Body weight is used as indicator of physiological parameters and micronucleus (MN) and frequency of chromosomal abnormalities are used as indicators of genotoxic parameters. The body weights before and after practice period, erythrocyte and bone marrow quantity and frequency of chromosomal abnormalities of Albino mice are determined through a sensitive balance, using micronucleus test and by using erythrocyte micronucleus test (EMT) and chromosomal abnormalities test (CAT), respectively. It is determined that 1,4 Dioxane practice causes a statistically important reduction of body weight and increase in MN and frequency of chromosomal abnormalities according to control group. Green tea practice improves these negative effects of 1,4 Dioxane and causes an increase in body weight and a decrease in MN and frequency of chromosomal abnormalities though less than control group. As a result, green tea practice can be used in reduction of toxicity caused by chemicals as a toxicity limiter antioxidant in near future.Key words: 1,4 Dioxane, Green Tea, Genotoxicity, Albino Mouse
