Abstract (EN)

The cholera disease, which originated in India, came out of its region and became a pandemic in the 19th century. Cholera became major epidemics many times on different dates. Throughout the 19th century, causing the world states to suffer material and moral damage. One of these pandemic periods was between 1846-1849, and another epidemic date was between 1865-1868. Cholera epidemics that cause huge losses; It also spread to the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century, While The Ottoman Empire was dealing with the epidemic, it was also dealing with both economic and political difficulties.This whole process was reflected in this whole process was reported in the newspapers Takvim-i Vekayi and Ceride-i Havadis. In these newspapers; Cholera epidemics, sickness and death in the world and in the Ottoman Empire cases, news about the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and quarantine practices like a wide variety of news has been written. The epidemic that became a pandemic for the first time in the history of the world is cholera. This pandemic, which affects the whole world, has led the world's states to act together against the epidemic. For this purpose, health conferences attended by many states have been organized. One of them is the İstanbul Health Conference, which was held in 1866. This conference was followed carefully by the Ottoman press. Reflections of Cholera Epidemics in the 19th Century to the Ottoman Press (According to Takvim-i Vekâyi and Ceride-i Havâdis Newspapers) In this study, between the years 1846-1849 and 1865-1868, the reflections of the cholera pandemics in the Takvim-i Vekâyi and Ceride-i Havâdis newspapers are discussed.
