Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to reveal the daily life of Izmir, one of the most important cities of Anatolia from past to present in terms social, political and economical structures, between the years 1929-1939. The research period is determined as the years 1929-1939. 1929 was an important breaking point in terms of being the starting year of the World Economic Crisis. Hence, this crisis changed primarily the economy but also every detail of humans' daily lives and reshaped the economic conditions of the era properly. 1929, was evaluated as an independent process because of the years when Turkey started to use the Latin alphabet. This new period is considered important both in terms of examining the resources within the scope of the research and starting a new process in the society. In this study, the data of examined period was tried to be given and revealed comparably with the evaluation of the history. The subject was limited with the city center for the difficulty of limiting the research because the rich texture of city' daily life and research period ended in 1939, the year when the World War II started. Due to the years of World War II and those happened next substantially changed the existing system; the post-war period is the subject of another study. In this study, the daily life in Izmir was tried to be reflected sophisticatedly benefitting from the newspapers of the period, memories and archive documents and the previously performed studies.
