Abstract (EN)

Today, emerging in Istanbul, multi-storey buildings become main building form of the cities of Turkey, which have become widespread after World War II. Economic conditions, official regulations and sociocultural factors affect the outspread of the multi storey buildings. The aim of this research which held in specifically in the city of Diyarbakır, is to show how those factors affect the advance of the multi-storey buildings across the country and in the city of Diyarbakır. Analyses are made on the settlement scale and the building scale. A theoretical framework for the development of multi-storey buildings has been prepared and the urban development plans of the city of Diyarbakır are given. Space syntax and visibility graph methods are used for the spatial analysis on the building scale. The characteristics of the structures on the settlement scale are investigated. In order to elaborate the strong factors in the urban development process the experiences and evaluations of who has taken an active role are examined. Within the framework of these themes, depth interviews are held with the officials who have decided on housing production and those of who take part in the planning and implementation of housing production. Graphics, convex space and visible area maps are created with the help of the Agraph and Depthmap. While citing the development process of the city of Diyarbakır, the socio-economic, technological and legal / administrative changes are mentioned that have major effects in housing and the city. The changes in spatial organization with the cultural background convert the functionality of the structures. The findings and evaluations show that the hyphothesis of this research is valid.
