Examination of the inclusion of child rights and child safety issues in the 2017 Social Studies course curriculum and textbooks

This research was prepared to reveal the status of including child rights and child safety in the 2017 Social Studies Curriculum and the Social Studies textbooks prepared in accordance with these curricula. The study is a qualitative research and the document analysis method was used. The 2017 Social Studies Curriculum and 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade Social Studies textbooks were used as basic materials in the research. Within the framework of the research, the 2017 Social Studies Course Curriculum, in terms of the specific objectives of the course, learning areas and the achievements it contains; The textbooks were analyzed in terms of texts, visuals, activities and unit preparation and evaluation questions, and the findings were organized and presented under the headings created in line with the sub-problems of the research. As a result of the research, it was concluded that children's rights and child safety issues are not included sufficiently in the Social Studies Curriculum and Social Studies textbooks. In particular, the issue of child safety is given less space in textbooks. It has been concluded that issues related to children's rights and child safety should be given more space both in the curriculum, in terms of purpose, learning area and achievements, and in textbooks.
