Analysing Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk according to the themes in the 2019 (Secondary school) Turkish language teaching curriculum

Education is a lifelong process rather than a period of time and to complete it in the most efficient way is also a part of this process. Completion of this part is achieved through teaching. In other words, while education, training and culture have been creating the building blocks of this process, they have coexisted and complemented each other. The materials to be used in teaching have emerged through time and have maintained their continuity. Today, even though technology plays a major role in creating a source for material and the books are about to be forgetten, yet, the books have always found its place in education and training. This study, which was carried out in order to analyse the book named "Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk" by Kâşgarlı Mahmud, which is our first language dictionary, under 16 theme headings in 2019 Turkish Course Curriculum, has been conducted through document review model which is one of the qualitative research models. The data has been analyzed by descriptive analysis. The data has been recorded through note taking and filling cards (receipt notes). Apart from the main purpose, the study has been evaluated within the framework of text qualities, Turkish cultural elements and educational elements sub-problems. Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk has been examined according to 16 theme titles foreseen in the 2019 Turkish Course Teaching Curriculum. Each theme title has been written separately in Microsoft Word files and note cards have been created.As a result of the study, examples belonging to the themes such as Virtues (171), Our National Culture (490), National Struggle (116), Individual and Society (77), Reading Culture (13), Communication (15), Rights and Freedoms (5), Personal Development (23), Science and Technology (16), Health and Sports (265), Time and Space (164), Emotions (149), Nature and the Universe (542), Art (29), Citizenship (5), Children's World (29) were identified in Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk. Nature and the Universe Theme has been the theme that includes the most examples. The themes of "Citizenship" and "Rights and Freedoms" has been the themes that include the least examples. From one hand, it is considered that not every works containing these themes inside can be included to the books and Turkish education, but on the other hand, because Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk is compatible with the text attributes in 2019 Turkish Course Curriculum and it hosts the themes in a way blended with our culture with examples from daily life, it is concluded that Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk can be included in Turkish textbooks/Turkish education and it will instill cultural linguistic awareness in students.
