The reflections of the May 27 coup to Turkish novels

Turkey, having gone through turbulent periods, has experienced many coups and coup attempts. The May 27, 1960 is the first coup staged in Turkish Republic. The process, causes and effects of this coup have both led to social crises and conflicts and provided novelists with substantial materials. Turkish novelists began to dwell on new subjects and reached a position where they can comment on this insurgency. While some novelists fictionalised May 27 as a revolution, some of them regarded the matter as a coup and fictionalised it in this manner. A novel is both a literary genre and a crucial data providing comprehensive sociological findings and helps us understand authors' sight of world. The aim of this study is to reveal how and in which perspective the May 27 process and incident have been treated and which topics authors have mainly focused in the novels published since May 27, 1960. In accordance with the purpose of the study, the reflection of the period on Turkish novel was adressed within the scope of the relevant topic by outlining the highlights of the period and sorting them regarding the publishing date and political-ideological viewpoints of novels. Therefore, it was seen how the viewpoint on the issue was represented and in which direction the cognitive transformation occurred in the world of novel.
