Transcription of Karaman Ahkâm Register No. 3 (PP. 1-96) 1746-1747

History is a discipline that examines the political, social, economic, and cultural aspects of past societies through archival documents and material evidence. In this context, archival documents are particularly important for illuminating the history of the Ottoman Empire. Among these archival documents, the Provincial Jurisprudence Registers (Eyâlet Ahkâm Defterleri) are regarded as essential resources for learning and analyzing the local history of a region from administrative, social, and economic perspectives. These registers are official records recording centrally issued decrees regarding provincial organization and provide direct information on local issues, practices, and social structure of the period. They also demonstrate the practical implications of the Ottoman legal system, providing insight into how the central legal order was implemented in the provinces. The Karaman Ahkâm Register No. 3 (pp. 1-96), dated 1746-1747 and the subject of this thesis, reveals how the provincial structure functioned regarding banditry, extortion, plunder, taxes, charitable endowments, inheritance and family law. To access this information accurately and for subsequent scientific evaluations, the notebook needs to be properly translated from Ottoman Turkish into contemporary Turkish. During this process, flaws such as misreading words can cause semantic shifts in the texts and lead to incorrect historical interpretations. Therefore, it is crucial that the transcription be faithful to the original to ensure source reliability. Transcription work requires not only a mastery of Ottoman Turkish but also a mastery of the linguistic and conceptual landscape of the period. This study aims to contribute to local and general historical studies by translating archival documents into contemporary Turkish. It also addresses Ottoman law, the Imperial Council, the Imperial Registers, and the administrative and social structure of the Karaman Province.
