Abstract (EN)

Introduction: Atherosclerosis is a systemic pathology that effects muscular arteries mainly coroner arteries. Investigations points out that high density lipoprotein cholesterol is associated with development of atherosclerosis and intima-media thickness while monocytes effects endothelial adhesions. Aim: In our study we aimed to determine association of monocyte HDL ratio with carotid intima media thickness which was not previously investigated in current literature. Materials and Methods: tudy was performed on 200 healthy volunteers aged 30-60 years with no detected ejection fraction anomalies and acute coronery syndrome symptoms, whom attended to outpatient cardiology clinic prospectively. Samples age, gender, body mass index, smoking history, biochemical values, lipid profile and hemogram parameters were evaluated. Patients whose CIMT was <0,9 mm was appointed as group one and CIMT was ≥0,9 mm appointed as group two. Results: Mean IMT and Monocyte/HDL ratio was 0,65±0,20mm ,13,6±5,9 respectively. Age(p<0,001) , smoking (p<0,001) ,body mass index (p<0,001)and monocyte/HDL ratio (p<0,001) was significantly higher in Group 1 compared to Group 2.. Multiple logistic regression analyses determines that age(p<0,001) and Monocyte/HDL(p<0,001)ratio significantly effects IMT >0,9mm variable. Area under the curve was 0,704 cm2 appropriate cut value was 13.4 (sensitivity %72, spesifity %60.7) Conclusion: According to findings obtiained from our study, we conclude that monocyte/HDL ratio can be used as a determinant of subclinical atherosclerosis, especially in young adults with IMT >0.9mm.
