Abstract (EN)

Nomadic communities are one of the main elements that constitute the Ottoman society. These communities with their significant number of human and herd populations were always in a remarkable position for the state. Although the main occupation of the nomads was stock-farming, they had limited agricultural activities and played a role in the transport sector as well. The Ottoman Empire was giving summer pastures and winter quarters to each of these nomadic communities. The empire was determining the borders of these territories and recording in the tax registers (tahrir defterleri). Thus, the nomads carried out their seasonal movements in the fields of summer and winter quarters. One of these communities is the Cihanbeyli tribe. The Cihanbeyli tribe is one of those which settled in Central Anatolia. Their living space is on the north-south axis raches to Polatlı from the northern parts of the Bolvadin-Yunak-Cihanbeyli line to the north of Konya and on the west-east axis reaches to the Salt Lake from Afyon-Emirdağ, excluding Kulu. The tribe in this territory was having a summer-winter quarter-life together with eight other tribes or communities, some of which were directly depended on the Cihanbeyli tribe. The tribe came and settled to this area around the middle of the 1600s. In particular, due to irregularity created by the Celali Rebellions in Anatolia, so many villages were emptied Cihanbeyli tribe and its links moved to Central Anatolia; this paved the way to the settlements in the territory from today's Cihanbeyli to Polatlı. However, it can be said that the studies conducted on some conglomerate organizations, which lived in Anatolia during the Ottoman period, were not in the desired scientific level both in terms of quality and quantity. One of them is the Cihanbeyli tribe. In this study, the historical progress of the spreading of the nomadic communities that settled in Anatolia in the leadership of Seljuks as part of the period of settling in Anatolia will be discussed. Then, the reasons for settling the nomadic communities and the activities based on the settlement movements in both the state and the nomadic settlements were tried to be explained briefly. Subsequently, after summarizing the scientific studies on the Cihanbeyli tribe, the physiography borders and the administrative, social and economic characteristics of the tribe will be discussed.
