Analysis of 5th grade mathematics program according to multiple data (The sample of Afyonkarahisar)

The aim of the study is to evaluate the 5th grade mathematics curriculum revised in the 2017-2018 academic year. The study is a type of exploratory consecutive pattern among mixed research methods. Interview questions were prepared in order to evaluate the 5th grade mathematics program. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 primary mathematics teachers. The data obtained were encoded in the computer environment and themes were created. The codes and themes that were created were blended with MEB (2009, 2013, 2017, 2018) mathematics curriculum and formed scale items. The scale was applied to 218 mathematics teachers in Afyonkarahisar province. As a result of the validity tests, a 29-item scale consisting of 4 sub-dimensions was obtained. At the end of the program, a 32-item achievement test was prepared for the students to evaluate the level of achievement. 102 students applied the necessary analysis and a 25-item achievement test was developed. Content analysis and descriptive analysis methods were used for interviews with teachers. For the analysis of the scale data applied to 225 elementary mathematics teachers, Descriptive Statistics, Independent Samples t Test, One-Factor Analysis of Variance (Anova) were applied. Success test applied to 435 students was analyzed in computer environment. According to the findings, it is understood that the program meets the student needs in the target sub-dimension. It is concluded that the content is too simplified in the content sub-dimension, and the program is incomplete in the use of modern teaching methods and techniques in educational situations. It was understood that students could not transfer the information they learned to the daily life in the measurement and evaluation sub-dimension. The achievement level of the students was calculated as 68%.
