Abstract (EN)

In this study, there were the 648 numbered sharia court registries of Karahisar-ı examined, covering the years H. 29 Cumadiye'l 1332-H. 4 Cumadiye'l 1333 (M.1914-M.1915). Because of the importance of the sharia court registries in terms of city history, 273 documents have been evaluated and classified within a careful plan by simple transcription after they were translated into today's alphabet due to the work on Karahisar-i court registries. From the book, for the years indicated regarding administrative and physical structure of Karahisar-ı, some place names, village and neighborhood names, connected to the center town, township, village, neighborhood names and other towns have been able to be identified. This had not become limited only to Afyonkarahisar it also has been made possible to learn the cities in different places of Ottoman Empire and names of places in the neighborhood. In addition to this, from the case records we have examined regarding social life; there has been reached to names of individuals belonging to Turks and Armenians, the neighborhoods and to some extent to important information that may shed light to the social structure such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and alimony law. In addition, the officials in different departments of the state, city governors (kadı), village leaders, commanders, etc. and beside these their places of employment and also the people who went to the war from Afyonkarahisar were able to be identified. Our study, which is in an important period as in the first quarter of the 20th century is extremely important in terms of that it is giving light to the socio-economic status of Afyonkarahisar althouh for a short time.
