Examination of conflict resolution skills in fictional texts in 7th grade Turkish textbooks

Conflict is an important element that occurs in every aspect of our lives. Conflicts and conflict resolution processes create constructive and destructive effects on students. Considering the development level of the students, the texts should include constructive conflicts where communication, cooperation and common interest are at the forefront. The aim of this thesis is to reveal how the conflicts in fictional texts in the 7th grade Turkish textbooks are resolved and how the results are reached. In the research, the document analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The analysis of the data obtained from the categories was carried out using SPSS 23 and EXCEL programs. In this context, 46 fictional texts in 7th grade Turkish textbooks were examined and conflicts were found in 30 fictional texts. According to the findings obtained from the research, the most common data in the conflict process are as follows: Conflicts resulted from basic requirements that could not be met with 76.5%. There was a strong reaction to the conflicts with 52.9%. Discussion type was used as the type of conflict with 47.1%. The conflict resolution strategy of using force was included in the conflicts with 26.5%. The conflicts resulted 44.1% in win-win and 44.1% win-lose. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the students are faced with a destructive reaction, strategy and result in the conflict process. This situation can negatively affect the emotional and social development level of students and cause them to acquire undesirable behaviors.
