The effects of using worksheets to success of students in unit on force and motion in 8th grade

The aim of this study is to determine effect of the unit ?Force and Motion? at the 8th, supported with worksheets and intra group discussions, on academic success of students and performance of the knowlede learned. Pre-test post-test with control group model was implemented in the research. The participants were selected among the 8th grade students of a primary in the academic year of 2011-2012. The study was conducted with the participation of a total of 55 students of whom 27 were in experimental group; 28 in control group. Education process was realized in the experimental group according to activities provided in teacher?s guidebook prepared by the Ministry of National Education according to constructivist teaching method and was supported with worksheets prepared by the researcher according to unit?s attainments. The teacher provided education according to teacher?s guidebook in the control group and did not organize any additional activity. The researcher also prepared an achievement test as a data collection tool in order to measure the academic knowledge of students. Intragroup discussions were appliled with the students in the experimental group in order to obtain qualitative data for the research. Quantitative data obtained were analyzed by t-test according to dependent and independent groups by using SPSS program. Qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis. The study implied that teaching through constructivist approach enriched with worksheets only increases student success compared to the implementation of the work taking place in the curriculum. In addition, as a result of analysis of qualitative data, supporting teaching with worksheets has been proven to be more effective.
