An evaluation of verbals in the texts included in 8th grade Turkish textbooks in terms of Turkish language teaching

With the implementation of the constructivist approach in education, methods such as induction and whole language have begun to be used in grammar teaching. The use of these methods has necessitated learning through texts. It is considered important for the effectiveness and permanence of learning that the texts students encounter in textbooks contain rich examples related to the subject they have learned or will learn. In this study, the aim is to identify the presence of films in the texts found in 8th grade Turkish textbooks and to determine their contributions to Turkish language teaching. This is a qualitative study, and document analysis technique was used as the data collection method. In the 2023–2024 academic year, 48 texts used in Turkish lessons were examined by two academicians for this purpose. The texts were analyzed and classified according to film elements, and the data were tabulated and evaluated in terms of Turkish language teaching. As a result of the study, it was found that many of the texts in the textbooks are quite rich in terms of film elements. In particular, the texts "Beyaz Diş" (White Fang), "Ressam İçin Zili Çalın" (Ring the Bell for the Painter), "Türkçenin Söz Denizinde – Sevmek" (In the Word Sea of Turkish – To Love) from the Ferman Publishing Turkish textbook, and "Atatürk ve Müzik" (Atatürk and Music), "Yılkı Atı" (The Wild Horse), and "Kalbim Rumeli'de Kaldı" (My Heart Stayed in Rumelia) from the Ministry of Education's Turkish textbook stand out in terms of their richness in film elements.
