Abstract (EN)
In 1847, the sanjak of Canik was annexed to the province of Trabzon and, except for a short period, remained within the province until the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Canik was one of the most important sanjaks of the province with its population density, agriculture and trade potential. Book 935, one of the important archival sources that provides us with information on a wide range of subjects, is related to the sanjak of Canik. The social structure of the sanjak was analyzed by analyzing the documents written between 1866-1876. After giving information about the administrative structure and population, the public order situation of the sanjak is discussed. In line with the information in the ledger, the crimes committed in the sanjak of Canik, the trial phases of these crimes and the punishments given were evaluated. Although murder, theft and rape were the most common crimes committed in the sanjak during this period, some other crimes such as wounding, embezzlement, plunder and attempted manslaughter were also committed. For these crimes, sanctions such as execution, galleys, imprisonment and compensation were imposed. The sanjak had important economic activities with its fertile lands, agriculture and industrial products produced from agricultural products, as well as its developing trade potential. In this context, the developments in the economic life of the sanjak are discussed, and the reconstruction works in the city are analyzed. In addition, information on developments in the field of health and the appointment and dismissal of administrators is provided.
