Assessment of risk factors in offshore supply vessel

Abstract (EN)

Ensuring safety and preventing accidents in the maritime sector is of critical importance for the sustainability of operations. In particular, accidents occurring in offshore supply and support vessels cause both economic losses and environmental damage, as well as posing serious risks to human life. Accordingly, determining the underlying causes and risk factors of maritime accidents emerges as a vital necessity to prevent similar incidents. In this study, accident data occurring in offshore supply and support vessels were examined and risk factors were assessed. 43 accidents recorded in the Global Integrated Maritime Information System (GISIS) and national and international accident databases of countries, occurring between 1990-2024, were analyzed. When the accidents were examined in general; 17% were seen as less serious, 25% as serious, and 58% as very serious. As a result of the accident analysis, the risk factors were identified and classified within the scope of the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS). In the study, HFACS frameworks were integrated into the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP). In order to analyze the human factor-based causes of accidents in more depth, the HFACS framework has been integrated with the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP). This integration aims to make the HFACS model more quantitative by evaluating the role of human errors on accidents with an analytical approach. The study aims to better understand the human factor-based causes of accidents occurring on offshore supply vessels and to minimize possible loss of life, property and environmental pollution incidents by improving these processes.
