The Kozan distri̇ct according to the yearbooks of Adana province

Kozan, whose history goes back to Kizzuwatneans according to Adana Province Salname, was a liva? (sanjak) of the Adana province during the period between 1872-1902. During this period, Kozan (Sis) as the center town, consists of four townships namely Haçin (Saimbeyli), Feke (Bilanköy), Kars-ı Zülkadriye (Kadirli). Haçin, which is the greatest liva? in terms of population, is one of the regions where the Turkmen live extremely as well as the Armenians. After the Ottoman-Russian war of 1877-1878, the resettlement of some of the Muslims who migrated to the Ottoman lands in here, had an influence in changing the demographics of this town. The economy of Kozan is based on agriculture and stockbreeding. In the Kozan town where a large number of agricultural crops were produced, the Turkmen were often engaged in livestock farming. Besides these, forestry and mining were means of existence among the people. Many institutions such as the Rüştiye School, Ziraat Bank, Reti Administration, Telegraph and Postal Administration have opened and started to operate at the center and other towns during the period we examined.
