Determination and comparison of critical thinking dispositions of pre-service sport managers

The first purpose of this study was to determine the critical thinking dispositions of pre-service sport managers and compare them according to gender and grade levels. The second purpose of the study was to examine if there is any significant correlation between pre-service sport managers? critical thinking dispositions and ages. The study was limited with twelve universities including Department of Sport Management in School of Physical Education and Sport. A total of 726 students studying at the first and fourth grade levels during the fall and spring semesters at the 2010- 2011 academic year were included voluntarily in the study. The California Critical Thinking Dispositions Inventory (CCTDI) developed by Facione, Facione and Giancarlo (1998) and adapted by Kokdemir (2003) to Turkish and also a survey prepared by the researcher for gathering some demographic informations were used to collect the data. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach?s alpha reliability and Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated, and also two-way analysis of variance (Two-way ANOVA) was used for the comparison of the data. The results showed that mean score taken from the California Critical Thinking Dispositions Inventory by pre-service sport managers was 204.24 ± 23.36. Accordingly, it can be said that pre-service sport managers have the low of critical thinking dispositios. It was found that there were no significant differences at critical thinking dispositions when compared according to gender and grade levels (p>0.05). The results also showed that critical thinking dispositions of pre-service sport managers demonstrated a weak positive association with age. In conclusion, it can be said that critical thinking dispositions of pre-service sport managers should be improved.Key Words: Sport Management, Pre-Service Sport Manager, Critical Thinking.
