Investigation of food consumption changes during Bonded RME adolescents

Abstract (EN)

The aim of our study is to evaluate food consumption changes in adolescents who underwent bonded RME. A total of 30 individuals, 21 girls and 9 boys, who were treated at Adıyaman University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics clinic, had maxillary posterior crossbite, and were in adolescence between the ages of 12-16 were included in our study. Immediately before the expansion treatment, patients' body weight, body mass index and 24-hour retrospective food consumption records (energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber, vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin E, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B12 and Omega 3) were recorded at four different times, 1, 4 and 12 weeks after the Bonded RME appliance was installed were taken. Analyzes were made using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 package program. Energy (kcal) levels respectively; T0: 1472.98±422.53, T1: 886.34±331.70, T2: 1091.76±353.81, T3: 1216.72±365.30. Energy levels before RME were statistically significantly higher than energy levels at the other three times. There are significant differences in protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber, vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin E, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B12 and Omega 3 levels. In terms of weight and BMI levels, the levels before RME were statistically significantly higher than the levels 1 week and 1 month later (p<0.05). As a result of our study, it was observed that the nutritional habits of the patients changed after Bonded RME was performed.
