The aim of the study is to determine tne motivational factors that play role on the sportsmen' participation in athletics, ski and tennis branches in Ağrı. For the aim of the study, a literature work has been done and this literature work has tried to give information abot the issue of the research. For the content of the study, a survey , which is designed by H. SUNAY in 1996 fort he sports branches, has been made and with the help of this survey, a solution has been sought. The data has been transferred into the SPSS survey programme. The data has been analyzed in the SPSS programme and these datas have been shown in graphics. Personal information variables ( age, gender, etc), frequency and percentage distribution have been found out in order to analyze the data. In order to understand whether the relation is meaningful or not, the Chi-square(X2) values have been calculated. The significance level has been defined asα = 0.05in the tests. At the end of the study, it has been found out that there are some differences between the expectations of the girls and boys about sports branches. Girls deal with sports due to the their expectations in order to be a physical education teacher and coach. On the other hand, boys do sports to be a popular person around their environment and get money by dealing with sports. It has been found out that boy sportmen' expectations about being popular and getting money are more than girls. This study has showed that the effects of the motivational factors such as environmental conditions, school sports facilities, television programmes and newspapers-magazines are less than the others. The reasons for girl and boy sportmen' to choose sports brances are, in order of importance, pyhsical education teacher, the joy of success, being healthy, environmental conditions, positive effects of sports, enjoying the sports branch itself and study sports at university.
