Latin letter adaptation of the prose translation of Ahmed Pasha Dewan by Tahiru'l Mevlevi

A review of six centuries long adventure of Classical Turkish poetry depicts that there are many printed and inscribed examples of prose and verse compositions. It is very important to adapt these works into Latin letter so that they can be enjoyed by modern readers. However, it is of equal significance that the texts of our old literary and cultural world are understood and interpreted. In this regard, Tahiru'l Mevlevi's rika style work entitled as "Prose Translation of Dewan of Ahmed Pasha Son of Veliyyu'd-din" is taken as the subject of this thesis which aims to present the poetry of Ahmed Pasha, a fundamental personage famous for his odes in dewan tradition. The aforementioned work is registered as number 85 and 86 at F. Sezai Turkmen Collection in Suleymaniye Library of Manuscripts, and as it would exceed the limits of an M.A. Thesis, the whole manuscript numbered 85 and the first 28 leaves of the manuscript numbered 86 were adapted into the current writing. The work is an important step for the annotation of the complete dewan work as it includes the prose translation of all the poems by Ahmed Pasha, a significant figure in our literary history. Additionally, the prose translation of the original work was conducted by Tahiru'l Mevlevi, a sophisticated person who possessed a great command of the contemporary tradition. Therefore, it was seen fit to include a chapter on the life, literary career, and works of Tahiru'l Mevlevi as the translator of the work adapted in this study.
