Comparison of new graduate recruitment process at family business and corporate business

Abstract (EN)

Today, there is a need for a qualified workforce throughout the world. Due to the pace of change in globalization, the needs of businesses vary from day to day. The changing nature of business life makes the recruitment process more critical regarding both businesses and candidates. The placement of "the right person to right job" at recruitment process make possible a sustainable job relation between the parties. New graduates are candidates without work experience. The recruitment of new graduates has particular importance in this context. In this study, it is aimed to reveal if there is a difference in the new graduate recruitment of family business and corporate business and to reveal if there is a difference to what extent it is different and how it differs. Research consists of two steps. At the first step, job advertisements for "new graduates" positions, which are published between 8-16 June 2017 at Kariyer.net, are examined. At the second step, within the scope of qualitative research, the semi-structured interviews conducted with the recruitment specialists of the family business and corporate business to were subjected to content analysis on the themes. According to the findings of the research, primarily new graduate job advertisements include criteria such as MS Office knowledge, foreign language knowledge, driver's license and experience. Findings of the second phase of the study support these determinations at the first step. Reasons for recruitment new graduate of the business; be eager to learn, easy adaptation to business culture and wage incentives. While foreign language knowledge isn't a priority criterion for most of the interviewed family busineses, it is a priority criterion for corporate business There is not a training programme named as graduate development programme for new graduates in the family business. There is only a graduate development programme for new graduates in one of the corporate business. Both family business and corporate business provide experience facility to students with intern programme. When they need the workforce, they can employ interns. Therefore, the internship is an essential opportunity for new graduates.
