Investigation of nutritional status, serum vitamin B₁₂ levels and effective factors of adult female individuals consulting to the family health center

This research was condusted to determine the nutritional conditions of adult female individuals and serum B₁₂ levels and to investigate effective factors. The research covers 109 adult women who applied to the Batman Family Health Center between November 2021 and April 2022. The average age of women is 35.94±10.73 years. The average female BMI values were 30.8 ± 5.83 kg/m². The average of the participants was 308.88 ± 138.75 with a vitamin deficiency of B₁₂ was 14.7%. The study found no statistically significant relationship between age, Body Mass Index, Physical Activity Level (PAL) value, smoking and alcohol use, use of metformin and serum B₁₂ vitamin (p>0.05). There has been a statistically significant relationship between serum B₁₂ vitamin levels and red meat and yogurt consumption frequency (p<0.05). The average daily requirement for B₁₂ vitamin is adequately met, based on the food consumption record obtained at a retro-average of twenty-four hours. There was no statistically significant relationship between the daily vitamin B₁₂ and the levels of the participants' B₁₂ (p>0.05). There was a positive-directional meaningful correlation between the age of the women participating in the study and the BMI value and body weight, and a statistically significant correlation with a negative direction between the PAL value (p<0.05). For better understanding and research of factors affecting serum B₁₂ level, further study is needed in the larger sample and both sexes.
