Abstract (EN)
This research was conducted to explore the protective factors that contribute to students' academic resilience and to examine the mediating role of academic resilience between school burnout and school engagement. In order to achieve these objectives, the exploratory sequential research design, one of the mixed methods research designs, was used. In this direction, with the phenomenological research method, it has been tried to reveal the difficulties caused by the negative life events they have on their school life, the methods of coping with them and the protective factors that improve their academic resilience. When the findings are examined, it is seen that negative life events create educational, psychological, social-emotional and economic difficulties on academically indomitable students; It has been observed that students cope with the risks and difficulties they encounter by using problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping and social support methods. It has been determined that the factors contributing to the academic resilience of the students are grouped under the sub-themes of individual, family, school and environmental resources. It is seen that students use individual factors more in coping with difficulties, followed by family, school and environmental factors, respectively. In this research, "Academic Resilience Scale for Adolescents" was developed based on the protective factors discovered within the scope of qualitative research. Using the developed scale, the mediating role of academic resilience and its resources (individual, family, school and environmental resources) in the relationship between school burnout and school engagement was examined in a correlational study. In this study, it was found that school burnout is directly related to school engagement, academic resilience and sources of academic resilience; it has been determined that academic resilience and resources have direct relations with school engagement. In addition, academic resilience and resources have been found to play a mediating role between school burnout and school engagement. Based on the findings obtained from the quantitative and qualitative research processes of the research, the research findings were combined. What are the protective factors that contribute to the development of academic resilience of students, how academic resilience and its resources play a role in the relationship between a risk (school burnout) and positive adjustment (school engagement) are integrated within the framework of the "Academic Resilience Development Model".
