Abstract (EN)

The most common female genital tract cancer is the endometrial cancer. This cancer is most commonly seen in women aged 55-60. Endometrial carcinoma is defined as type I and type II. Type I is related to unopposed of estrogens and endometrial hyperplasia. Low-grade carcinomas such as mucinous and endometrioid carcinoma are type I, on the other hand high-grade, deeply invasive, serous or clear cell carcinomas are type II. Ovarian tumors are common neoplasms in women and represent 30 percent of female genital system cancers. There is no correlation between the incidence and the mortality of ovarian cancers because the rate of early diagnosis of ovarian cancer is low. Malignant tumors are common in women between the ages of 40-65. The average five-year survival rate is 32% in the literature. In present study, we analyzed retrospectively the demographic, histopathological and survival relations of patients who were diagnosed as uterine epithelial tumor, malignant mixed Mullerian tumor and ovarian surface epithelial tumor at Akdeniz University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pathology between 2000-2011, by examining patient data obtained from database and obstetrics and gynecology department of our hospital, and compared with the literature data. In this study, we examined 452 patients diagnosed with uterine epithelial tumors, with an average age of 58. 17 patients were under 40 years old and among all the patients, 372 were diagnosed with endometrioid type of endometrial adenocarcinoma, 17 patients with serous adenocarcinoma and 26 patients with malignant mixed Mullerian tumor. 201 cases (44.5%) were grade I and stage I, observed as the most common stage (70%). Average survival time was 26 months. The survival rates of type I tumors were better than type II, and patients stage I or II had better survival rates than the patients stage III or IV, but no statistically significant difference was found. Additionally, patients under 40 years old had a better survival rates than patients over 40 years old. 205 patients who were diagnosed with ovarian surface epithelial tumors were included the study. The mean age of these patients was 55 and 62,9 percent of these patients were diagnosed before the age 60. Among these patients, 87 (42,4%) had serous adenocarcinoma and 57 (27,8%) had endometrioid adenocarcinoma. Bilateral tumors were the most common tumors, with respect to the localization of tumors. The most common stage was stage III (78,6%). Grade 3 tumors was observed in the 68,2 percent (131) of patients. Five year survival rates was 60% for the patients with stage I and II tumors, while 57% for stage III and IV. Survival rates of stage III and IV tumors were worse than stage I and II, but the difference was not statistically significant. Serous adenocarcinomas had a worse prognosis than other carcinomas and borderline tumors had much better prognosis than the others. As a result, clinicopathological data and survival analysis of ovarian and endometrial epithelial tumors which we analyzed were mostly similar with the literature. The differences were due to the insufficient number of patients with fully accessible data, failure to achieve a numerical balance between groups and large number of patients who were lost to follow up
