Abstract (EN)

The trip generation step of traditional four-step transportation planning model is the first and the most important phase of transportation-related studies. In this step, the city/settlement is divided into traffic analysis zones and inter-regional trip generation is calculated with the information obtained from the travel surveys. This research focused not on the trip generation of a region, but on the trip generation of a land use type. In international practices, there are studies in which land use types are categorized and calculations of trip generation rates are made for each category. In the research, the main problem was the lack of studies that included calculations of trip generation rates for land use types in Turkey and the sub-problem was the use of long-term and high-cost travel surveys as a data source. It is aimed to measure the trip generation rate of residential use that have a large surface area within the urban built-up area and are located at the origin or destination point of regular trips. The public transport smart card was chosen as the data source. Sample areas were selected in the metropolitan city of Izmir. The morning peak hour trips of the selected sample areas during the specified weeks were calculated, and the public transport trip generation rates were measured. Evaluation parameters were determined according to the spatial characteristics of the areas and the current status of public transportation service. The correlation between the obtained rates and the parameters was analyzed. As a result, it was determined that the smart card could be used as a data source, but a more efficient evaluation would be made with information on the socio-economic structure.
