Abstract (EN)

Our environment and natural resources are being exposed to cumulative effects of ever-developing technology, rapid population growth, diversified habitual consumption, progressive social and individual welfare, hence a destruction in natural balance albeit unintentionally. Generation of energy is among the foremost causes of this destruction, as gases, namely greenhouse gases ingenerated in consequence of energy generation and exhausted to atmosphere cause atmospheric pollution and greenhouse effect. Gases generated as a resulf of fuel combustion at vehicle motors are exhausted into the atmosphere and cause atmospheric greenhouse effect, thus it becomes inevitable to figure out carbon footprints which have a considerable concern in environmental pollution and take nec. In this study, calculations of highway-origin pollution caused by CO2, carbon footprint, in AKSARAY Province were made. IPCC Tier I and Tier II methods were used at calculations. Besides determining highway-origin carbon footprints in the last 5 years in Aksaray Province, study results also enable inter-annual comparison and analysis and CO2 quantity variation within defined time period. This study is the first broad-based highway-origin carbon footprint determination study in Aksaray Province. According to the calculation results, the total carbon footprint amount between 2016 and 2020 is 456,986.99 tons, 479,602.77 tons, 621,087.01 tons 742,941.29 tons and 752,550.97 tons according to Tier 1 method, respectively, and 600,463.75 tons, 666,158.04 tons, 644,697.45 tons, 644,359.16 tons and 660,704.17 tons according to Tier 2 method.
