Abstract (EN)
This study researches into the potential physiologic and genotoxic effects of Bisphenol A, which is one of the most frequent chemical substance used in food and beverage packaging materials, on Swiss Albino mice and the protective role of green coffee against these effects. The study analyzes the physiologic effects by measuring the live weight, liver and kidney weight, whilst determining the genotoxic effects by frequency of micronucles (MN) on erythrocyte cells and determining the chromosomal damage on buccal mucosal epithelium and bone marrow cells. Mice used in this research were divided into six groups in total comprising of 6 mice in each group, while the mice in control group were fed with tap water, the mice in treatment group were fed with 100 mg/kg b.w. and 400 mg/kg b.w. doses of green coffee and 50 mg/kg b.w. dose of Bisphenol A. As a result, while application of the Paraben led to an significant statistical decrease in live and organ weights, caused to an significant increase in MN and chromosomal abnormalities frequency. Application of green coffee healed the potential negative effects of Bisphenol A and revealed an important recovery in all parameters depending on doses. It was determined that Bisphenol A induced toxicity after certain dose threshold and green coffee is an effective antioxidant in reducing the toxicity.
