Investigation of the effect of perceived school climate and perceived emotional abuse from the teacher on peer bullying

This study was carried out to examine the relationship between peer bullying, school climate and perceived emotional abuse from the teacher. It is also aimed to examine the peer bullying behaviors seen in high school students in terms of various variables. The sample of the study consists of 396 secondary school students, 260 girls and 136 boys. In order to collect data, Personal Information Form, Peer Bullying Scale Adolescent Form (PBS-AF), Perceived Teacher Behavior Scale (PTBS) and School Climate Scale (SCS) were used. According to the results, a negative significant relationship was obtained between the perceived school climate and the bully and victim status of the students. A positive and significant relationship was obtained between the perceived emotional abuse from the teacher and the situations of being a bully and a victim. In addition, a negative significant relationship was found between the perceived school climate and the perceived emotional abuse from the teacher. According to the results of the regression, it was concluded that perceived emotional abuse from the teacher, affects both the bully and victim status of the students, but perceived school climate effecs only on the bullying behaviors. The findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature and suggestions were made.
