The relationship between perceived stress and emotional eating: Mediating role of emotional intelligence and resilience

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of emotional intelligence and resilince on the relationship between perceived stress and emotional eating. The sample of the study was consisted of 538 university students (459 female, 79 male). Perceived Stress Scale, Turkish Emotional Intelligence Inventory, Schutte Emotional Eating Scale, Brief Resilience Scale and personal information form were used in order to collect data in online forms. The analysis of the research was done using SPSS 22 and AMOS programs. Result of the study suggested that there was a positive relationship between emotional eating and perceived stress. In terms of gender, female participants' emotional eating scores are higher than male. There was a negative relationship between emotional eating and resilience. Besides, resilience mediated the association between emotional eating and perceived stress. Finally, the findings of this current study discussed in the lights of current literature.
