Abstract (EN)

Purpose of the research; It was determined as the examination of the concept images created by primary school 6th grade students for the definition and classification of the triangle. Case study, which is one of the qualitative research types, was used in order to carry out the research in accordance with its purpose. The sample of the research consists of nine students selected among 6th grade students studying in a public school in Kırıkhan, Hatay. These students were selected as 3 successful, 3 moderate and 3 weak students according to their success levels in order to ensure maximum diversity in the research. In order to examine the concept images of the students for the definition and classification of the triangle, a semi-structured interview form was prepared by the researcher in line with the expert opinions. The questions in the form were prepared by taking into account the "Theory of Formal Concepts" (Fischbein, 1993). Interviews were held with 9 students at different times. Data obtained were evaluated using the content analysis method in accordance with the qualitative research. Student answers were divided into categories in accordance with the research and these categories were created in line with expert opinions. As a result of the research, it was seen that concept images were dominant while students were defining and classifying the triangle. Students generally used prototype examples while drawing triangles. It was observed that there was no relationship between concept image and concept definitions of some students. Suggestions for researchers were given in line with the findings and results obtained.
