Abstract (EN)
The use of deep mixing method in soil improvement projects for structures exposed to low to medium loads has increased in recent years due to its ease of application and economy. Portland Cement and lime are the most popular binders for the deep mixing method. Due to the production costs of these binders and the damage they cause to the environment during production, the search for the production of environmentally friendly alternative binders with low carbon dioxide emissions has accelerated. While the studies conducted in this direction focus on industrial waste materials, it has been observed that no study has been carried out on the usability of materials such as volcanic tuff in the waste ground state. In this study, the usability of waste volcanic tuff and blast furnace slag in the improvement of Bartın weak alluvial soils by applying deep mixing method was investigated. The test samples were formed by mixing the produced binder based on volcanic tuff and blast furnace slag on the Bartın alluvial ground at the rate of 10%, 20% and 30% by mass. Considering the condition of the soil in the field, the water content of the samples was adjusted to be 75%, 100% and 125% of the liquid limit value. The prepared samples were cured for 7, 28, 56 and 90 days in two different conditions, both in a humid environment at 23±1°C and in water. In order to evaluate the changes in the engineering behavior and microstructure of the samples, flexural strength test and unconfined compressive strength test and SEM, XRD and DTA-TG analyzes were performed. The results obtained were evaluated by comparing them with reference samples with conventional binder content prepared under the same conditions. The results showed that samples containing volcanic tuff and blast furnace slag outperformed samples with cement additive prepared under the same conditions.
