Abstract (EN)

In this study, new cationic gemini surfactants (CGS) with imidazole head groups having different hydrocarbon chain lengths and different spacer groups have been synthesized, purified and their structures have been elucidated by appropriate spectroscopic methods. Physicochemical properties of these substances such as Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC), aggregation number (Nagg), degree of ionization (α), Krafft temperature (TK), counter-ion binding degree (ρ), liquid / air interface properties, paint solubilization power (SP), emulsion stability have been determined with devices of surface tension, conductivity, UV and fluorescence spectrophotometer. The effects of different chain lengths and different spacer groups on physicochemical properties have been investigated. The some of the aforementioned experimental studies have also been applied to different molar fractional mixing systems formed from commercially used monomeric surfactants and cationic gemini surfactants synthesized in this study. The ideal / non-ideal solution behaviors of the mixing systems have been determined by blending the experimental data with the theoretical calculations. Additionally, the antimicrobial activity properties of these substances against 3 gram-positive and 3 gram-negative bacteria have been tested.
