Comparison of academic self-esteem introversion and shyness levels of children attending middle school with Turkish and non-Turkish native languages

This research compares the academic self-esteem, introversion, and shyness levels of children attending secondary school whose native language is Turkish and whose mother language is not Turkish. The participants of the research consist of 438 students between the ages of 10-16 who continue their education in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades at Midyat Altunkaya, Midyat Kocatepe, and Midyat Cumhuriyet Secondary School. "Demographic Information Form, Academic Self-Esteem Scale, Eysenck Personality Inventory, Child Shyness Scale" were used as data collection tools in the study. For the analysis of data, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, academic self-esteem (ABS) for the relationships between variables; Independent t test and one-way ANOVA were performed to look at the differences between variables. According to the results of the research, it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in terms of academic self-esteem between students whose native language is Turkish and those who are not. It was determined that the academic self-esteem levels of students whose native language is Turkish and who continue to secondary school are lower than those whose native language is not Turkish. According to the results of the research, no significant difference was found between the introversion and shyness levels of children whose native language is Turkish and those who are not. When the study examined whether there was a difference between the children's introversion, academic self-esteem and shyness levels in terms of demographic variables, it was found that the shyness levels of the participants with low socioeconomic status were significantly higher than the participants with medium socioeconomic status according to education and socioeconomic variables. According to the results of the research, it was found that there was a significant difference between the academic self-esteem levels of students who continue to secondary school according to the educational status of their fathers and mothers. As the father and mother's education level increases, academic self-esteem levels decrease.
