Abstract (EN)
Archaeoastronomy is a branch of science that explores how people who have lived in the past understood the celestial events and played a role in their cultures. Examines the sources (temples, altars, legends, epics, etc.) of past cultures related to the events related to the sky (Solar eclipse, Lunar eclipse, stars, planets etc.). Archaeoastronomers, to evaluate the past astronomical applications; the written records, the historical records of celestial events, how they are used and their cultural effects. In this study; sundials of Greek culture in Ancient Anatolia were investigated. Scope of work; the origin and development of the sundial. Although it is not known exactly where the sundials come from, the first known sundial is found in the Valley of the Kings in Ancient Egypt. This sundial is dated to ~1300 BC. It is thought that sundial culture later moved to Greek society. In our study it is researched some types of sundials in Turkey and has been referred to their properties. The ancient cities where sundials are concerned with our study are in alphabetical order: Aphrodisias, Ephesos, Klaros, Latmos, Pergamon, Sagalassos, Side, Smyrna.
