Effect of anaerobic power on quickness and agility

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the aim was to examine in the effect of anaerobic power on quickness and agility. Thirty elite taekwondo players from the Turkey national team, (age=21.29±2.73 years; height=1.67±0.059 m; weight=59.64±8.509 kg; sport age=10.29±3.315 years) for fourteen women and (age=21.81±3.229; height=1.82±0.088 m; weight=73.75±14.187 kg; sport age=11.94±3.454 years) for sixteen men, participated as volunteer in this research. The procedure was Wingate test for anaerobic power and 5 meter sprint test for quickness and T-test for agility performance. Significant relationships were found between quickness performance with anaerobic peak power and anaerobic mean power respectively (r= -0.547) and (r= -0.536) for women and (r=0.503) and (r=0.506) for men athletes. Also, regression analysis revealed that anaerobic peak power and anaerobic mean power was a significant predictor of quickness performance, explaining respectively 30% and 29% of the variance for women athletes and explaining respectively 25% and 26% of the variance for men athletes. Anaerobic peak power and anaerobic mean power in a unit change affects quickness performance in -0.001 rate (P <0.05) for women athletes and quickness performance in respectively (0.0004; 0.001) rate (P<0.05) for men athletes. Significant relationships were found between agility performance with anaerobic peak power.kg-1 and anaerobic mean power.kg-1respectively (r= -0.507) and (r= -0.508) for men athletes. Regression analysis revealed that anaerobic peak power.kg-1 and anaerobic mean power.kg-1 was a significant predictor of agility performance, explaining 26% of the variance. Anaerobic peak power.kg-1 and anaerobic mean power.kg-1 in a unit change affects agility performance in respectively (-0.229; -0.344) rate (P<0.05) for men athletes. In conclusion, when anaerobic power increases quickness performance increases in women athletes. On the other than, there isn't no change agility performance in women athletes. If anaerobic power/kg increases agility performance is effectively positive in men athletes.
