ABSTRACTAN APPLICATION OF CLUSTERING R&D PROJECTSBY USING THE ANALYTIC HIERARCHY PROCESSMehmet Tunş cM.S. in Industrial EngineeringüuuSupervisor: Prof. Dr. Ulkü GürlerJuly, 2004Due to imprecision or uncertainty that is inherent in the design process, themanagement of research and development projects is very challenging. With thegrowing complexity of the design process and need for diï¬erent specializations, itis getting even more tougher. Especially, in an organization where tens of high-tech, military R&D projects are carried out concurrently, management should besupported with the state-of-the-art decision and operations research methods.In this thesis, we consider an application of the classiï¬cation of R&D projects.More speciï¬cally, the problem discussed in this study is grouping N diï¬erentprojects into groups based on a predetermined set of features. Since some fea-tures are fuzzy, expert knowledge is needed to quantify the features. In order toquantify the features successfully, Analytic Hierarchy Process is used.
