A Qualitive study relating to opinions of women managers that works at the state schools, about glass ceiling

The aim of this study is to reveal the views of the women education principals who work in public schools in Antalya, about the glass ceiling syndrome. The study was adopted phenomenologic method within the framework of qualitative research design. The participants of the research are 19 women managers working in primary, secondary and high schools which are in Antalya province. Participants were selected based on educational organizations, length of service, branch, title and volunteering of participants, according to the maximum diversity. İnterviews were used as basic data collection tool for the research. As a result of the analyzed data, it is assumed that women managers choose to be administrators themselves, but they havent planned their positions. Female managers reported that they were blocked mostly because of their social roles in the process of rising. Female managers stated that they are not equal with the male managers due to social roles. Female managers expressed that they take example by a woman manager who they encountered in their professional lifes, as a role model and there's not enough women in senior management positions. They stated that; Gender discrimination, intensity of the working hours, workload and MEB promotion criteria, are the reasons for that. To increase the number of female managers, there should be positive discrimination, changes in the family / community structure, tangible improvements and senior management support, according to participants.
