Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted in order to determine the effects of the thinning intensity (modertae, heavy) liming on the root biomas in young oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) stands located in Hopa/Artvin, Turkey. A total of 18 experimental study plots (each 20 m x 20 m) were randomly established in a homogenous manner in the stands of 25 year old oriental beeches. The treatments carried out on the plots were; thinning (moderate and heavy), liming (5 tons ha-1) and controls. Four root samples were selected in each plot (total 72 sample). Coarse root and fine root were measured in 2008 and 2016. The results showed that the total root biomass was increased between 2008 and 2016. According to liming, modertae thinning and heavy thinning treatments, these incerements were not significant in statistically. This study indicated that competation between the roots has started. Our suggest that should be re-liming and re-thinning.
