Abstract (EN)

This study emphasises on the Tecdid (novation) acts performed by the Muslim philosophers who embarked on a quest for the salvation of the Islamic world, which has lost its power against the Western countries. The title of the thesis was determined as "Ihya (betterment) and Tecdid in Arab-Islam Philosophy". This study contains an introduction part and three sections, as well as the conclusion part. In the introduction part of the study, some terms such as Ihya, Islah, Tecdid, Religion, and Alteration in Religion, were explained in detail. Countless philosophers support the idea of Tecdid in Arab-Islam philosophy. However, as not to widen the scope of the thesis, three philosophers were approached in each section for sampling. In the first section, the thoughts and works of Jamâl al-Din al-Afghani, Muhammad Abduh and Rashid Rida were discussed under the title of "The Birth of Tecdid Idea in Arab-Islam Philosophy". In the second section, the thoughts and works of Hassan al Banna, Saayid Qutb and Saed Havva under the title of "Development of Tecdid (Political Tecdid)". Then, in the third section, the thoughts and works of Mohammad Abed al-Jabri, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd and Mohammad Arkoun under the title of "Socio-Cultural Tecdid)". Furthermore, in the conclusion part, the thesis was finalised through a general evaluation.
