State and prevention of bio smuggling in Artvin

Bio smuggling has become increasingly important, especially in recent years. The main reason of the bio smuggling is seen as increasing use of natural resources and high rents. However, sufficient scientific work has not been carried out at the point of bio smuggling and prevention. The aim of the study is to determine the bio smuggling situation in the world and Turkey, to determine the bio smuggling in Artvin province and to propose solutions together. The study used bio smuggling records covering the years 2007-2017 in the Turkey, and Artvin province as data. Analyzes based on these data show the current situation and solution proposals. Records kept on bio smuggling incidents and the ways in which they were followed interviews with local people, and legal legislation helped to determine the solutions for prevention of this situation. The study shows that there are 68 bio smuggling cases recorded in Turkey and 11 of them are realized in Artvin province. The most subject of bio smuggling is Hatay with 18 cases and Artvin with 11 cases in the second province in Turkey. Considering the number of cases on the Bio smuggling, Birds (27) Butterflies (12), Orchid (8), bulbous tubers (5) are the leading type of groups. It is clear that these cases are becoming more prevalent as genetic resources in the world will become a serious problem in the natural resources of the country and the income level of the country. In this context, the application of CITES and other international legislation has a very important place in the prevention of the exploitation and bio smuggling of natural resources of developing countries worldwide and in particular.
