Investigation of reuse methods of waste foundry sand produced in foundries

Abstract (EN)

Foundry sand is a fundamental production material used extensively in many industries such as automotive, iron and steel, alloy production, and metallurgy. After the casting process is completed, this sand loses its functionality and becomes waste. Parallel to the increase in production volume, foundry sand waste forms increasingly large piles and occupies a significant amount of space in storage areas. This situation creates an additional economic burden for the sector. With the development of industry, the disposal of this waste without harming the environment or making it reusable has become an increasingly critical issue. In this study, waste foundry sand obtained from Hekimoğlu Foundry Facilities will be added to asphalt mixtures in specific proportions to produce asphalt briquettes and stability flow tests will be conducted on the briquettes. Based on the results obtained, it has been evaluated whether the use of foundry sand in asphalt mixtures poses any environmental risks in terms of recovery, given that foundry sand has become a major issue in today's world.
