Determination of interception from different tree species in the same habitat

Abstract (EN)

Interception is the name given to precipitation that is held by the above-ground parts of the plant and returns to the atmosphere before it reaches the ground. Interception is very important in many aspects of hydrologic cycle. In this study, under the same habitat conditions, the interception losses occurring in seven different forest trees were determined. The study was carried out between November 2018 and June 2019 in Zonguldak Ereğli. For all species, throughfall and streamflow were measured and total net rainfall per plant was determined. The difference between the total amount of precipitation falling in the open area and the net precipitation has been revealed by the loss of interception. During the study, a total of 16 rain events occurred under the vegetation with net rainfall and 816,60 mm rainfall was recorded in the open area. Throughfall values of the species are between 48.86 and 61.37 mm; streamflow values were determined between 0.37 and 2.34 mm. Total amount of interception was lowest for oak tree with 37.68%; it was highest for cypress tree with 49.18%.
