Abstract (EN)
Mining industry is one of the machine intensive industries and vast amount of energy is consumed in many stages of operations that performed in mines. Among these mining operations, haulage is responsible for the great amount of energy consumption. Diesel fuel that is a form of fossil fuel is used as an energy source for trucks in haulage operations. Large amount of fuel is consumed by trucks and fuel cost is the major contributor to the operating cost in surface mining. Besides, diesel fuel consumption can cause some environmental problems such as greenhouse gas emissions. On this basis, monitoring of fuel conusmption is a significant subject for mining companies in terms of financial and environmental. Fuel consumption and emission models are used for the estimation of the amount of fuel consumed and greenhouse gas emitted. These models include macroscopic, mesoscopic and microscopic modeling apporaches. Macroscopic models are defined as regression based models and their output data is average fuel consumption. Microscopic models is used for estimating the instantaneous fuel consumption and emission rates mainly depending on the speed of trucks. The objective of this research study is to develop a discrete event simulation model for the estimation of fuel consumption and emission rates by using microscopic modeling approach in Arena, discrete event simulation software. While determining the amount of fuel consumed, some parameters related to trucks, road conditions and environment were considered. The developed model was applied for a cement company using their real operational and environmental datasets. The company has one processing plant where crushers are included in and two different limestone and clay mines which are located 16 km and 7.6 km away from the processing plant, respectively. For their haulage operations, trucks with a capacity of 40 tons are operated and their behaviors are the main focus of this research study.
