Abstract (EN)

The Zengids and Ayyubids, who ruled over the same region before the establishment of the Bahri Mamlūk rule, attached great importance to scholars, science and madrasas. The Bahri Mamluks also continued this tradition and gave importance to scientific activities and built many madrasas. In this period, prominent statesmen, especially sultans, emirs and naibs, paid attention to madrasas and scholars. The Mamluks inherited many institutions from the Zengids and Ayyubids. Madrasahs were the most important of these institutions. Fiqh courses were intensively taught in madrasas. Although most of the scholars showed their expertise in one field, they also had mastery in other fields. For example, a faqih, in addition to his expertise in fiqh, is also a master of sciences such as hadith, tafsir, theology and logic. In this period, the teachings of Shafi'i and Hanafi fiqh were at the forefront. There were very few madrasas where the fiqh of other sects was taught. Many scholars were trained during the Bahri Mamluks period. At the same time, many valuable works were written in this period. Most of the scientific works that we frequently refer today in different fields were written in this period. The scholars who grew up in this period made a great contribution to the world of science. As a matter of fact, today, the works of these ulema take their places in the corners of the places where scientific studies are carried out.
