Abstract (EN)

The Redif Organization began to be established in Anatolia and Rumelia to fill the military vacuum in the provinces with the Redif Regulations issued in 1834. The newly created structure is organized as units that receive training in city centers and perform military service in turns. With this arrangement, the Ottoman State not only closed the shortage of soldiers in the provinces, but also ensured the security of the provinces and prevented trade and agriculture from being damaged. Bandırma Redif Barracks, on the other hand, was built in 1902 during the reign of II. Abdülhamid. Today, Redif barracks have been evaluated with educational, military, public, cultural and tourism functions. For this reason, the physical properties of the structures are suitable to be evaluated for different types of functions. The building has been actively used in military and educational functions, except for a short period of time since 1902 when it was built. The building, which has survived by preserving its physical integrity, has been re-functionalized as an academy of fine arts by preserving its traditional features. A new function has been proposed by evaluating the building without affecting or damaging it. Bandırma Redif Barracks will be transferred to future generations by contributing to the local people and protecting it as a cultural heritage within the scope of Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University with a re-functioning proposal.
