Abstract (EN)
Burnout syndrome is an occupational disease which concerns not only individuals but also people who get service, labour institutions and even the family of the individual so it concerns all the society effectively. Fatigue, which arises from intense job stress, is seen more in occupations which need face to face communication. This syndrome, which can be identified as entire negative attitudes which employees have towards the occupation and those around, is one of the most significant problems institutions have to face. Banking sector, which has intense competition structure, requires inevitable continuous changing and development and needs work overload and face to face communication, draws the attention as the area of profession in which fatigue is often observed because of this structure. Addressing the effects and struggle methods of burnout syndrome, which threatens both individuals and the institutions, is very significant. The purpose of this study is to make a remark by discussing whether bank employees working in the banking sector have burnout syndrome or not and to make a contribution to the relevant field of study. To reach this purpose, a survey study towards the bank employees working in state and private banks in Erzurum was carried out. Obtained data was analysed by using statistical methods like Anova and T tests. Findings showed that levels of burnout syndrome of relevant bank employees were very high. When the body of literature is reviewed, it is realised that even though there have been many studies on burnout syndrome, which is one of the topics of organizational behaviour, for employees working in different sectors, studies analysing the effect of burnout syndrome on bank employees are fewer. Key Words: Burnout syndrome, emotional exhaustion, desensitization, personal success, bank employees
