Determination of biology and natural enemies of the walnut pest Garella musculana (Erschov, 1874) nin Bartın

Asian Walnut moth was first identified in Bartin province in Turkey in 2015, it is an important pest species of Central Asian origin that causes damage to fresh shoots and fruits of Walnut. This study was carried out in Walnut grown areas in Bartın province between 2017-2019 Asian walnut moth Garella (Erschoviella) musculana's distribution, damage behavior, wintering period, biology, morphology, adult exit time, sex ratio, egg laying behavior, molecular identification and natural enemies have been identified. In addition, the differences between Cydia pomonella (L.) and Zeuzera pyrina (L.) which cause similar damage, have been revealed. Garella musculana has a life cycle in the form of eggs, larvae, pupae and adults, develops 4 generations a year. The pest overwinters at the pupa stage, usually aggregations of the cocoons, the loose bark bottoms and the cracks in the tree's trunk. It has been observed that pest lays their eggs on the leaf axils on fresh shoots and on the contact points of the double-triple fruits and the egg hatching period is 5-14 days. It was determined that the larvae entered the plant from the leaf axils of fresh shoots and the contact points of the double-triple fruits and the larval development period lasted 20-35 days. It was been determined that adult emergence from winter takes 45 days and the male / female ratio is 1: 1. As the natural enemies of the pest belonging to Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera) from 3 subfamily Anomaloninae, Cryptinae and Pimplinae were determined.
